If you want to display your content to best advantage… Pretty Pictures is the perfect theme for you
In their overview of the Pretty Pictures theme, Studiopress say…
This theme features a single column layout with an emphasis on images.
In other words, this is a theme that concentrates on displaying content with an emphasis on visual content.
No overstuffed sidebars, no bulging footers, just a gloriously wide stage surrounded by acres of whitespace.
Studiopress have aimed this theme at photographers, but it deserves a much wider market than that.
Every blogger, every website owner, every business website owner want to show their content to best advantage… and the Pretty Picture theme does just that.
Whatever sort of blog or website you have or are planning for the future, if you have content that you want to showcase; this is a theme that deserves your attention.
Pretty Pictures is not just easy on the eye… it’s packed with features
No matter how good a theme looks it has to be versatile and adaptable and for that you need features.
Just like all Genesis child themes the Pretty Pictures theme has plenty of time saving features, including the following:
- Mobile responsive – adapts to your visitor’s screen size and gives them the optimum viewing experience. A must-have feature to future-proof your website.
- Custom header – easily upload your own custom header.
- Custom menus – supports WordPress custom menus.
- Featured images – supports WordPress featured images.
- Fixed width – gives you precise control over the exact look of your site.
- Three page templates – archive, blog and columns page templates.
- Theme options – allows you to control many of your theme options from within the WordPress admin area.
How to setup the Genesis Pretty Pictures 1.0 child theme
This is a super easy theme to set up in fact it only has one widget area – Header Right.
Installing your Genesis child theme – in order to use a child theme, you must have the Genesis parent theme installed in the wp-content/themes directory on your server.
For full details please refer to Installing a Genesis child theme.
Importing the demo content – if you want to setup your site like the demo site, you need to import the demo content.
How to set up the Header area – the area with the large image and text overlay at the top of the site is the Header area.
To upload a header image go to Appearance -> Header and upload your own image.
The suggested image sixe is 1600 pixels x 550 pixels.
For the text overlay, go to Appearance -> Widgets and drag a text widget to the Header Right widget area. Add your text to the text widget and save.
Adding Images – for best results use images that are larger than 1024 pixels on both sides.
You can insert full size images at the beginning of posts and the responsiveness of the theme will resize the images to fit.
Adding the Continue Reading link to your posts – For the Continue Reading link, insert the more tag in your posts where you want the link to be inserted.
A word about Post Formats – additional post formats have been enabled for this theme: Quote and Gallery.
To use these post formats, write your posts as usual then choose “Quote” for Quotes and “Gallery” for Galleries.
The “Quote” post format removes the post title – see the demo site for an example.
For the gallery, upload your images to the post, create the gallery and insert it into the post body.
Want to do more customisation? – Pretty Pictures 1.0 looks fabulous straight out of the box, but if you want to do any more customisation, we recommend the Genesis Extender plugin by Eric Hamm.

One of the first StudioPress themes I bought was “Minimum”, because I was looking for a child theme that would be perfect for my husband to showcase his photography efforts. I still love Minimum, but this one looks like it might have the edge; yet another win from the StudioPress team!

Hi Susan
Looks as though you and I have similar tastes in WordPress themes.
This site uses Minimum 2.0 and I’m already working on another site using Pretty Pictures.
Let me know if you move your husband’s site over to the new theme.
Many thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment – I’ll pay you a visit.
Wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas.
