Divi by Elegant Themes: Divi Sections and how to use the parallax effect like a pro

divi theme by elegant themes Divi Sections and the parallax effect

One of the great things about the new Divi theme by Elegant Themes is not just that it’s an awesome pagebuilder theme, but that it’s backed with tons of documentation, videos and extra free resources to help you get your site up and running… in double quick time.

It looks as though Nick Roach and his team have worked on the development of the Divi theme and the production of the resources in tandem so that they could be released at the same time and it’s worked perfectly.

In this post I’m going to use one of the Divi teaching videos to run through the basics of Divi Sections and then take a look at combining Sections with the parallax effect to create some stunning effects.

Divi by Elegant Themes: Image templates, device templates and the blurb icon set

divi theme by elegant themes images and blurb icons

One of the disappointing things about installing a new WordPress theme is that when you compare it with the demo site…. the demo always looks so much better. And that’s because the demo site is put together by a graphic designer and it uses fabulous graphics

I can’t turn you into a graphic designer, but if you’re using the Divi theme from Elegant Themes, I can show you where you can get awesome graphics specially designed for Divi.

The Divi theme was released on 11th Dec 2013 and it’s created quite a stir in the WordPress community.
What most of us thought would be just another theme, turns out to be a full blown theme builder complete with the elegance and ease of use that only Elegant Themes know how to provide.

WordPress Theme Builder Shootout – When all is said and done, the biggest competition for these products is not each other but a premium theme, especially the new breed of highly flexible themes such as Divi…
Chris Knowles – WPMU DEV

For a general review of Divi check out my previous post Divi by Elegant Themes: the ultimate drag and drop WordPress theme. This post will concentrate on using the premade layouts that come with Divi, and importing additional business and portfolio premade layouts.

Genesis 2.0 hits the streets: Complete with gorgeous HTML5 ready child themes

genesis version 2 plus four HTML5 ready child themes

The mist of anticipation was lying heavy in the little town of Genesisville as the release of Genesis version 2.0 was awaited.
But it couldn’t be released until WordPress 3.6 was available and the WordPress devs were having problems and there was talk of delays.

WordPress beta versions were released by the bucket load then we had 3.6 Release Candidate and 3.6 Release Candidate 2.0 and then, one moonlit night, the WordPress upgrade notice appeared in dashboards throughout the land and a few days later… Genesis 2.0 was released.

Catalyst focuses on the Dynamik Website Builder with the Genesis theme framework as the core

Catalyst, Dynamik Website Builder and the Genesis theme framework

Just got back from a week’s holiday and find that the breaking news is… the Catalyst theme framework will no longer be sold and the foundation for the Dynamik Website Builder and the Genesis Extender plugin will now be the Genesis theme framework.

To me that makes perfect sense.

Genesis is the #1 industry standard WordPress theme framework and Eric Hamm’s Dynamik Website Builder and the Genesis Extender plugin are the perfect tools for non coders to produce their own child themes and customise existing child themes.

Genesis people – David Decker the Plugin Man

Genesis people – David Decker the Plugin Man

My favourite line from “The Importance of Being Earnest” is when Lady Bracknell says… “To lose one parent, Mr Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.”

If we were to use a similar line for David Decker it would be… “To write one plugin, Mr Decker, may be regarded as impressive; to write thirty three plugins is just plain awesome!”

That’s right David has written thirty three plugins covering BuddyPress, WooCommerce and the Genesis framework and since this is a post about “Genesis People” it’s the Genesis plugins that I’ll be concentrating on.

Almost there with Genesis 2.0: Are you getting ready to rock?

Genesis version 2.0 and WordPress 3.6

Do you remember when you were young and you were waiting to go on holiday?
The whole family had been talking about it for months, you’d looked at pictures on the internet, decided what you were going to do when you got there and then the day of departure arrived.

You were up at the crack of dawn, the car was packed to the gunnels, and you felt as though your head would explode with excitement, and then… you had to sit and wait.

Add a lick of paint to your old content: And watch it soar in the rankings

Add a little Search Engine Optimisation to your old pages and posts

Here’s a suggestion.
Do you remember when you first setup your website? You added a few pages and posts, optimised them for various keywords, hit publish, read them a few times live on the net, and then you moved on.

So my suggestion is:
Why not revisit those pages and posts and give them a couple of coats of your best SEO high gloss paint?
